I still recommend driving to the beach as the road is very dusty. We went to watch the sunset, it gets quite chilly in the breeze at that time of the day, so I would recommend taking a flask of something hot and a blanket or something warm to wrap around you whilst you wait for the sun to go down, it is well worth doing and very romantic
Pool. There are few very good taverns in the are and also supermarkets. Staff is great, restaurant is great and good price. Xasteria features garden views, free WiFi and free private parking, located in Elafonisi. All of it: the place, the room, the vue, Nichos and the staff ..and the food.. oh la la the food.. Maybe the best table in Crete.

Also if you stay on the beach after dark it's safe, but remember to enable satellite in the google navigation otherwise its impossible to get out of the unmarked car park.
